The Oakville & District Archives are located in the Senior Centre. Below are some snippets of information from them:
The first train came in June 1890 with supplies to build a bridge across the Assiniboine River. There was no turn around so the train had to back up to Winnipeg. School Ponies The plan is to erect a small (1/4 size) bronze pony with 2 children mounted on a Tyndall stone base in the community of Oakville, Manitoba to serve as a memorial to an important contributor to the early education of Canadian children.........................................
